Los pronombres personales (de sujeto)
Subject personal pronouns in Spanish indicate who performs the action in a sentence.
- Use pronouns that correspond to the gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural) of the subject.
- Use nosotros / vosotros for a group of all men or mixed, and nosotras / vosotras for a group of only women.
- Use "tú" / "vosotros" for informal situations, and "usted" / "ustedes" for formal ones.
# | Singular | Plural |
---|---|---|
1 | Yo (I) | Nosotros (We) / Nosotras (We (female)) |
2 | Tú (You) | Vosotros (You all) / Vosotras (You (feminine plural, informal)) |
3 | Él (He) / Ella (She) / Usted (You) | Ellos (They) / Ellas (They (feminine)) / Ustedes (You (plural)) |
Careful!
- In Latin America, the use of usted is more frequent and is used both in formal contexts and in many informal contexts.
