Los pronombres personales (de sujeto)

Subject personal pronouns in Spanish indicate who performs the action in a sentence.

  1. Use pronouns that correspond to the gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural) of the subject.
  2. Use nosotros / vosotros for a group of all men or mixed, and nosotras / vosotras for a group of only women.
  3. Use "tú" / "vosotros" for informal situations, and "usted" / "ustedes" for formal ones.
#SingularPlural
1Yo (I)Nosotros (We) / Nosotras (We (female))
2 (You)Vosotros (You all) / Vosotras (You (feminine plural, informal))
3Él (He) / Ella (She) / Usted (You)Ellos (They) / Ellas (They (feminine)) / Ustedes (You (plural))

Careful!

  1. In Latin America, the use of usted is more frequent and is used both in formal contexts and in many informal contexts.
