Nouns in Spanish can be masculine or feminine. In Spanish, there is no neuter gender.

- Nouns ending in "-o" are masculine, in "-a" are feminine, and in "-e" or in a consonant can be masculine or feminine.
- Some nouns become feminine by adding "-a" to the masculine form.
- Some have completely different forms in masculine and feminine.
- Some nouns that refer to people do not change; only the article indicates the gender.
