El plural de los sustantivos
We learn to recognize and form the plural of nouns.
- The plural of a noun is formed by adding "-s" or "-es" .
- The article also tells us if the noun is plural or singular.
Singular | Plural | ||
---|---|---|---|
(a, e, i, o, u) | El cuello (The neck) | + "s" | Los cuellos (The necks) |
Vocal acentuada | El pie (The foot) | + "s" | Los pies (The feet) |
Consonante | El corazón (The heart) | + "es" | Los corazones (The hearts) |
"z" | La nariz (The nose) | → "c" + "es" | Las narices (Noses) |
"s" | El iris (The iris) | / | Los iris (The irises) |
Careful!
- Nouns ending in "-z" are irregular and change to "-c" in the plural: La nariz / Las narices
- Some nouns lose the accent in the plural form. Example: El pulmón / Los pulmones
- Some nouns are the same in singular and plural. Example: El iris / Los iris
Exercise: The plural of nouns
